What happened to free ACP tablets
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which offered a one-time discount of up to $100 on a laptop, tablet or desktop, stopped enrolling in February 2024 and ended on June 1, 2024 when its funding ran out. Any website still promising "free ACP tablets" is out of date or misleading.
Where to get a free or low-cost tablet now
- Lifeline providers: some offer a tablet promotion to Lifeline customers; terms vary.
- Nonprofit refurbishers such as PCs for People and Human-I-T sell low-cost devices to income-eligible households.
- Schools often loan tablets or Chromebooks to students.
- Public libraries in many areas lend tablets and hotspots.
- EveryoneOn lists low-cost devices and internet offers by ZIP code.
Who usually qualifies
Most programs accept households on SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, WIC or housing assistance, or with income near or below 200% of the poverty guideline. Students may qualify through their school.

Are refurbished tablets good?
Reputable refurbishers test devices and often include a warranty.
